Will DRI WASH 'n GUARD® remove hard water spots?

It can, but only if the finish is relatively new, has already been treated, or the spotting hasn't set too deeply. DRI WASH 'n GUARD® is a tremendous cleaner, but it is not an abrasive rubbing compound, which often is necessary to remove severe hard water spots.

Does DRI WASH 'n GUARD® help to protect against ultraviolet (UV) radiation?

Yes, thanks to two special ingredients which help screen UV rays. But there is nothing that can totally protect a surface from exposure to the sun. Just as sunscreens cannot entirely protect the skin from burning, UV- blockers cannot fully protect painted surfaces from chemically decomposing over time.

Can DRI WASH 'n GUARD® remove scratches?

Yes, if they are minor, light scratches. It will eliminate the tiny "feather" scratches caused by many car wash brushes. The product does not contain any ingredients which can fill deeper, more serious scratches.

To remove light scratches, spray the scratched area with a 12" X 12" coat of DRI WASH 'n GUARD®. Place a conventional high-speed buffer, with a foam bonnet, directly against the scratched area. Turn the buffer on while holding it in position, operate at 1,500 rpm for 20 seconds without moving the buffer. Repeat once if necessary.

Can DRI WASH 'n GUARD® be applied under direct sunlight or on a hot surface?

Yes, but only if the product is buffed immediately.  If DRI WASH 'n GUARD® is allowed to "bake" into the vehicle's finish, dark spots may appear beneath each sprinkle.  A garage is ideal, or a shaded area outside.

Can DRI WASH 'n GUARD® be used to clean eyewear?

Due to the chemical composition of the product we do not recommend using DWG to clean any eyewear. Most glasses (both glass & plastic) come with a protective film which may be damaged when using the product.

Both the paint industry and the automobile industry generally endorse a 90-day waiting period for newly painted vehicles, during which time thinning solvents evaporate from the paint, allowing it to cure. DWG International endorses that industry standard.

Beyond its durability, how often should DRI WASH 'n GUARD® be reapplied to keep a vehicle looking really good?

To keep the incredible sense of depth and brilliance in the paint, and to keep the surface as smooth as porcelain, a monthly application is recommended. Of course, that depends on the color and condition of the paint and the weather conditions. Normally, re-apply the product every 1-3 months.

How many waterless wash/polish jobs can I expect from a bottle of DRI WASH 'n GUARD®?

Using a new compact-size vehicle as an illustration, the 8 oz. AIRosol applicator should yield four polish jobs including glass. The 32-oz. refill bottle should provide about 16 applications; the 64-oz. refill about 32.

Of course, the larger the vehicle, or the worse the condition of the paint, the more DRI WASH 'n GUARD® you will use. But remember, a little goes a long way!

Should DRI WASH 'n GUARD® be removed while still damp, or let it dry completely?

Normally it makes no difference, but in cases where the paint is in very poor condition-dry, rough, oxidized-it is better to remove the product immediately before moving to the next area.

Can DRI WASH 'n GUARD® with exclusive formula PolyGuard-3® remove swirls left in the paint by other products?
Yes. But you must buff in the opposite direction of the swirl mark pattern, or in a circular motion.

Is it really impossible to burn paint with a buffer when using DRI WASH 'n GUARD®? What buffer speed is best?

 You'll have to try very hard. Under normal circumstances it cannot happen. The surface simply becomes too slippery and smooth to create the necessary friction (and heat) which causes paint burn.

An orbital or a variable-speed buffer at 1,500 RPM or less will do the job. Do Not Buff With The Edge Of The Pad-use the entire pad surface whenever possible. Operate the buffer using unhurried, overlapping circular motions while maintaining firm downward pressure.  Before attempting to use DRI WASH 'n GUARD® with a high-speed buffer, you should be experienced in the usage of a buffer and the differences in paint types with regards to buffer use.

Can DRI WASH 'n GUARD® be applied to vinyl tops?

Yes and no. DRI WASH 'n GUARD® is not intended as a vinyl cleaner, but it will clean vinyl without damage and will protect it. It is difficult, however, to remove DRI WASH 'n GUARD® from the tiny grooves in deeply grained vinyl. If it is used on vinyl, do not allow it to dry to a haze before buffing of the vinyl surface. Always test in inconspicuous area when using on leather and vinyl surfaces.

Is too-frequent use of DRI WASH 'n GUARD® harmful to the paint?

No. DRI WASH 'n GUARD® can be applied daily without harming the painted surface. The product works only as hard as necessary. On paint in excellent condition, it cleans as gently as water. On oxidized paint, DRI WASH 'n GUARD® cuts through layers of oxidation each time it is used. The more DRI WASH 'n GUARD® with exclusive formula PolyGuard-3® is used, the more brilliant and smooth the surface becomes, and even more resistant to the elements.

Why shake DRI WASH 'n GUARD before each use?

Some of the product's ingredients fall out of solution and must be remixed before use. Vigorously shake the 32-oz bottle prior to filling the 8-oz. AIRosol applicator bottle, then shake it before each application of DRI WASH 'n GUARD®.

What happens if DRI WASH 'n GUARD® freezes?

DRI WASH 'n GUARD® has been subjected to repeated cold-cycle tests to -20 degrees F. with no damage to the chemical formulation. However, the bottles in which the product is packaged will become brittle and subject to breakage in sub-freezing temperatures. It is recommended that DRI WASH 'n GUARD® be stored at room temperature.

If I decide to wash my car before applying DRI WASH 'n GUARD®, must I dry it, too?

A big YES here! Even a few drops of water will create problems, i.e. the polish will be difficult to remove and will probably leave streaks. Furthermore, DRI WASH 'n GUARD'S® shine and protection qualities will be greatly diminished.


Can DRI WASH 'n GUARD® be applied over other waxes and polishes?

Yes. It will cut through any wax or polish and leave a brilliant, bonded layer of protection.


Should DRI WASH 'n GUARD® be applied over paint and sealants?

Yes and no. Paint sealants are only applied to new cars, or cars whose paint is in excellent condition. If properly applied, the sealant will maintain the finish for six months or more. When the finish no longer beads water, the DRI WASH 'n GUARD® should be applied. DRI WASH 'n GUARD® should not be applied within 90 days after a fresh paint sealant.

If DRI WASH 'n GUARD® is applied over FRESH paint sealant, it is possible that the DRI WASH 'n GUARD® may be somewhat difficult to remove and cause minor streaking, usually noticeable only on darker colors. It can be applied over a fresh paint sealant without problems if a high-speed buffer is used.


What are the benefits of DRI WASH 'n GUARD® on glass, and are there any precautions to its use?

There is no other product for use on glass which will give the brilliant clarity of DRI WASH 'n GUARD®. The glass will seem to disappear. The product also makes a glass surface smoother, or slippery, so that water runs off a windshield without a trace. This "slick" surface also means that insects, bird droppings and tree sap can be removed effortlessly. In winter, windshields and outside mirrors protected by DRI WASH 'n GUARD® are more easily cleared of snow and ice.


How dirty is too dirty when applying Dri wash n guard?

If there is caked mud, heavy dirt, small pebbles, sand or obvious large amounts of dirt on your cars paint surface then it is better to err on the side of caution when detailing your vehicle. Use common sense and some water. Carry a small bucket and a sponge or 2 then clean the area with some soap and water, rinse repeat until clean then apply your DWG car polish over the top of that. Even if the vehicle has a fair amount of dirt on it Dri Wash can be used safely without any problems , however in using the product for over 20 years I have found I would rather save it for polishing, shining and buffing while using a small bit of soapy water in a bucket to clean the dirty areas ie behind the wheel wells etc.  


What is the guarantee on DRI WASH 'n GUARD®?

When used in strict compliance with its "directions for use," DRI WASH 'n GUARD® is guaranteed to perform as indicated. Upon initial use, the bottle will spray properly and the vehicle will shine more than before DRI WASH 'n GUARD was applied and water will bead on it.

Once oxidation begins, however, it cannot be stopped, only slowed. Protect your investment

Before you read this article I want to point out that contrary to popular belief the “Big-3” auto manufacturers do believe in oil additives. Each one of them has an oil additive manufactured for them and private labeled with their name on it. One uses a graphite based additive another uses a sulfur based product. You’ll find it on the shelves in their parts departments. I understand why you might be surprised by that bit of news, we’ve never heard them promoting it have we? Heaven forbid that we should extend the life of the equipment they manufacture and sell. Have you ever looked at the corporate year end reports of these companies? If you do you will notice that their income source in replacement parts is nearly double that of their new car sales income? Interesting? Why do you think that car parts don’t seem to last as long? Some suggest that it’s by design.
 Because oil technology has made great strides in recent years, the thought that motor oils of today are capable of protecting engine parts and extending engine life better than ever before is understandable. Keep in mind though that the design of today’s motor oils is still dictated by the manufacturers of today’s engines. The oil designer follows a strict set of guidelines set forth by the engine manufacturer just as it has been done for decades.
They follow those guidelines so that they can place a label on the can that says; “meets manufacturer’s minimum requirements.” It was recently pointed out to me that the engine manufacturer’s minimum requirements haven’t changed since 1957. I found that odd knowing that the minimum demands we place on our engines today is significantly greater then the minimum demands of the fifties.            

Did you see that it’s based on the “minimum requirements?” Remember that the next time you buy a quart of store brand oil…it was also made by the company with the lowest bid.

It's no secret that an engine contains hundreds of moving parts that must be kept separate from each other by a film of oil. Whenever two parts slide or rotate, the resulting metal to metal contact can produce severe and unnecessary wear. An important function of motor oil is to establish a film of oil thick enough and strong enough to prevent metal-to-metal contact. The more oil can accomplish this the longer a piece of equipment can last.

A second important function of motor oil is to reduce friction. Friction results from the resistance of engine parts to movement against each other. To experience that right now place the palms of your hands together and rub them against each other quickly for 10 seconds. You will feel an immediate increase in palm temperature. Can you imagine how quickly the moving parts in your engine would heat up and fuse together if you didn’t have good lubrication?

Motor oils are required to do more than provide a lubricating film and reduce friction. A third important function is to act as a coolant and help remove the heat generated by the engine. The engines heat again comes from friction produced by closely fitted engine parts such as connecting rods and main bearings, camshafts, and piston rings. Though most people think that the radiator fluid is responsible for cooling the engine it actually only handles about 60% of that task. The engines oil handles the other 40%. This presents a good case for always keeping your oil at the correct level as specified by the manufacturer.

The ease of starting an engine depends not only on the condition of the battery and ignition, proper fuel volatility, and fuel to air ratio but also on the flow properties of the motor oil. If the oil is too viscous or heavy or thick at starting, it will impose enough drag on the moving parts that the engine cannot be cranked fast enough to start promptly and keep running. All of our friends in the northern parts, where temperatures drop each year, have most likely experienced this from time to time. That’s why they make sure they change their engine oil to a lower viscosity before the temperatures drop. Viscosity is a measure of the oil’s resistance to flow. A lower viscosity such as a single-grade 5W can flow easier in cold temperatures than a single-grade 40W. But then once the engine finally warms up to operating temperatures the 5W is not enough protection and now your engine needs 40W. Therefore engineers designed a multi-grade blend that could function in conditions as extreme as that. You’ve seen them as 5W-20, 5W-30, 5W-40, 10W-30, and 10W-40 and so on. Here in the southern part of the US  where temperatures can be extreme on the other end of the scale you’ll find many owners using 20W-50. Be sure and always consult your owners’ manual for the recommended blend.  But then again perhaps you should make a more intelligent decision and determine what's best for your engine.

With all of the internal parts of an engine being constructed basically of metal components, motor oils are blended with other additives that help to neutralize the foreign by-products that can occur in the crankcase. Fuel that blows by the rings, moisture that never evaporates because the engine wasn't operated long enough at normal operating temperatures, and there are many more. Those by-products can be corrosive to the internal metal parts so motor oil has a blend of additives that can help resist rust and corrosion. It just seems that no one can tell you how long it can actually resist the elements.

The efficient operation of an engine depends on the motor oil to do the following:

Permit easy starting.
Lubricate engine parts and prevent wear.
Reduce friction.
Protect against rust and corrosion.
Keep engine parts clean.
Cool engine parts.
Seal combustion pressures.
Prevent foaming.
Aid in fuel economy.

How do I care for my vehicle between DRI WASH 'n GUARD® applications?

It's EASY, All you need is two soft terry towels-a small washcloth and a hand towel. Wet the smaller one with water until it is almost dripping, then lightly run over the area to be cleaned (such as the hood). DO NOT RUB HARD. The dirt and water will not stick to the DRI WASH 'n GUARD® on the surface. Now take the dry, larger towel and lightly buff the area dry. That exclusive DRI WASH 'n GUARD® shine will come right back. Ordinarily, one wetting of a small washcloth is enough to finish an entire car.

A little common sense will help here-if your car is really dirty with caked mud, pebbles, etc. remove it from the surface with care.

DRI WASH 'n GUARD® contains 47 ingredients, including wetting agents, lubricants and protectants which have never been used by the car care industry.
The detergents and wetting agents in DRI WASH 'n GUARD® combine to soften and emulsify surface grime, while a specific blend of polymeroxane fluids and hydrophenolic lubricants attach a microscopic layer of exclusive PolyGuard-3® to the surface.     DRI WASH `n GUARD® ULTRA-ION™ Waterless Car Wash


    Important: DRI WASH `n GUARD® ULTRA-ION must  be applied on hard, non-porous surfaces only. Pre-test on inconspicuous area before use. Can be used over surface containing moderate level of dust, dirt, road grime or salt.
    Refill Procedures:
    • Unscrew collar nut at neck of  pump sprayer and remove internal spray mechanism
    • Invert bottle of product, shake  for 15-20 seconds
    • Pour contents into AIRosol pump sprayer until 75% full
    • Re-Install spray mechanism and collar nut.
    • Can also be used with trigger sprayer follow above instructions, however the trigger sprayer can be filled almost to the top.
    Directions By Hand:
    1. Apply Dri Wash `n Guard® ULTRA-ION to a cool, dry surface in a shaded area. Avoid windy conditions if possible.
    2. Use two soft, clean terry cloth towels... one for applying the product and one for buffing.  For best results, use the DWG Buffing Towel for buffing.
    3. Invert the AIRosol pump sprayer and shake vigorously for 15-20 seconds.
    4. Pressurize the bottle by pumping the cap "up and down" until a strong resistance is felt (approx. 10-15 times).
    5. Spray a light coat of Dri Wash `n Guard® ULTRA-ION on a small section of vehicle (2-3 sq. ft.), spraying with a broad sweeping motion where possible.
    6. Using the terry cloth towel, with moderately firm pressure, rub polish thoroughly over the sprayed area until the filmy haze that developed almost disappears.
    7. Buff the remaining haze to a high gloss with the DWG buffing towel.
